Packaging in motion: Rembrandt responds to changes in the bakery industry
Rembrandt has been an established name in the carton world for many years, and is known as a B2B specialist in high-end carton packaging for the food and beverage industry. The pastry world is also an important market. But that world is changing rapidly.
The bakery sector is changing rapidly
"We closely follow developments within the sector and actively respond to them," says Dirk Roosen, Managing Director at Rembrandt Packaging. "We notice a clear shift: the number of artisan bakeries is declining, while larger bakery groups and industrial players are gaining ground. Consumer buying behavior is also changing, with more focus on retail."
To capitalize on this trend, Rembrandt is increasingly targeting larger players such as bakery groups, industrial bakeries and retailers. Yet the company is not losing sight of artisan bakers.
"It is becoming increasingly difficult for us as a manufacturer to deliver smaller orders efficiently," explains Dirk Roosen. "This is why we are increasingly turning to collaborations with wholesalers. They often deliver a complete package of products to the baker every week, making it much more logistically efficient to include our packaging as well."

New: Easy Fill and YUM - smart and tasty packaging
Rembrandt offers a complete assortment for the patisserie market: from pastry boxes, trays and quick pack boxes to bucheting boxes. These are available in a white version, in two standard designs (Bite and YUM), as well as personalized with name printing.
Recently, Rembrandt launched two innovations:
-
YUM, a new standard box with a fresh and tasty design;
-
Easy Fill, an updated pastry box with practical advantages. Thanks to the fold-down front, you easily slide the cake in and out, without damage. The closure has also been renewed. Easy Fill is currently available in a high format of 11 cm, ideal for cakes with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Other sizes will follow later.

Sustainable and safe
Because pastries often come into direct contact with the packaging, food safety is crucial. Rembrandt is BRC certified and works according to strict hygiene standards. At the same time, aesthetics and ease of use remain important.
"In addition, we use almost exclusively FSC-certified cardboard. That means the cardboard comes from sustainably managed forests," said Dirk Roosen.
